Richard Neutra developed a holistic form of modernism in which the rough lines of the landscape counted as much as smooth surfaces and reduced geometry. His villas, set into the sparse Californian landscape as open, clear structures with wide views, became prototypes of the modern American postwar house. He is regarded as the originator of Desert Modernism.
The author, Barbara Lamprecht, writes and teaches on architectural history with a focus on modernism and also practises as an architect, specialising in sustainability and small spaces. This introduction is part of TASCHEN’s Basic Architecture series. Peter Gössel edited the volume. English edition, hardcover, 96 pages.
