Pierre Koenig is a leading figure of Californian modernism. Julius Shulman’s night view of his Case Study House #22, floating above the lights of Los Angeles, is among the best-known architectural photographs of the 20th century. Koenig contributed two houses to the Case Study programme and, working in steel and glass, showed the elegance of industrial materials and the experimental spirit of the postwar years.
Neil Jackson, architect and architectural historian, taught in California between 1985 and 1990 and has written widely on its modern architecture. His study grew out of a long friendship with Koenig. The book is part of TASCHEN’s Basic Architecture series. Peter Gössel edited the volume. English edition, hardcover, 96 pages.
