Latex, plastics and a strong consumer culture shaped American design in the 1950s. It was a decade of post-war rebuilding, driven by idealism and optimism, and its new materials and styles reached from the suburbs to the inner cities and from furniture to metalware.
The book draws on Decorative Art, The Studio Yearbook, a rare annual survey, to trace the trends in architecture and interiors, furniture, metalware, ceramics and glass that accompanied the mid-century boom. It was edited by Charlotte and Peter Fiell, authors of more than 70 books on the history of design. The hardcover has 576 pages with text in German, English and French.
