Carhartt WIP is the European offshoot of Carhartt, the American workwear company founded by Hamilton Carhartt in Detroit in 1889.

In 1994 the Swiss designers Edwin and Salomée Faeh established Work in Progress as the exclusive European distributor of Carhartt, followed by the first own collection and a store on London's Neal Street in 1997. The label reinterprets classic workwear for everyday life and has long been connected to skateboarding, hip hop, graffiti and electronic music.
