Glass Houses

Glass Houses brings together 50 architect-designed homes built almost entirely of glass. The selection runs from houses of early modernism, among them Philip Johnson's Glass House and Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House, through mid-century villas in Los Angeles such as Pierre Koenig's Case Study #22, to recent projects in which newer techniques allow even bolder glazed structures.

Compiled by the Phaidon Editors with an introductory essay by Andrew Heid, the hardback has 240 pages and 300 illustrations. The houses stand in 19 countries, from Australia, Brazil and Chile to Japan, Mexico, Sweden and Vietnam, and the architects include Lina Bo Bardi, Tatiana Bilbao, Herzog & de Meuron, Kazuyo Sejima, John Lautner and Richard Rogers. The photography concentrates on the light-filled interiors that glass makes possible.
